Artbreeder is a neural network for creating creative portraits, landscapes, abstractions, music album covers, and much more. A distinctive feature of the tool is the ability to “crossbreed” images with each other and fine-tune the final result by changing the presence and intensity of both the “genes” themselves and various illustration parameters using sliders.
- Splice is the main tool and best demonstrates the concept of “gene crossbreeding.”
Without any input, Splicer generates random portraits. By moving the sliders in the panel on the right, you can adjust the prevalence of various features, including age, gender, hair and eye color, change race, clothing and makeup, and emotions.
If desired, you can add up to eight reference photos (Add Parent), or “parents,” which will be used as the basis for generation. In addition, it is possible to additionally introduce ‘genes’ (+ genes) to obtain certain traits. At the same time, the entire “pedigree” is always preserved, and you can easily go back a couple of steps and change something.
By default, Splicer creates portraits, but you can also generate buildings, landscapes, scientific scenes, characters, anime images, and even music album covers.
- Poser – allows you to create images of people in different poses by combining a portrait, one of the preset body positions with key points, and a text description of what should be in the final photo.
You can use your own photos, previously generated images, or other users’ creations as a basis. You can choose the aspect ratio, adjust the facial resemblance, and select from various processing methods. - Mixer – you can mix images (up to eight) to get interesting combinations that inherit the content, concept, and style of the samples. Images generated by you or the community, as well as photos uploaded from a disk or just a text description, are suitable as sources.
- Prompter – Traditional image generation based on text prompts, as in many other neural networks. If desired, you can select a starting photo by uploading your own or taking one from the community gallery for Artbreeder to use as a basis.
- Tuner – A fully customizable portrait generator in which you can use more than 50 sliders to influence the final result by changing age, gender, emotions, appearance, as well as adding objects, animals, and dominant colors to the photo.
- Collager – Allows you to create collages from various objects – from phones to dinosaurs, simple shapes and hand-drawn forms or pieces of photos. After putting together a rough sketch on the canvas, come up with a text query, and the Artbreeder neural network will generate cool art.
- Patterns – A special mode for creating surreal illustrations based on one of the selected patterns and a text description. You can draw your own pattern with a brush or upload a photo, which will be simplified to monochrome and turned into a pattern.
- Outpainter – A tool for expanding the boundaries of an image, where the missing part is drawn in according to a given text description. You can move the original image around the canvas, zoom in and out, and erase unnecessary fragments with an eraser.
